We received a letter from Inlandsea Pilots' Association about 'Pair boat whitebait fish trawling around Akashi Strait' (Attached. Japanese only) in Japan. The letter states that many fishing boats has been observed around Akashi Strait and they to apply below countermeasures from 22nd/Jun for some time in order to ensure safety navigation passing through Akashi Traffic Route.

1. Period: From 22nd/Jun/2017 continue for the time being (except day off) * Day off = Every Wednesday and Sunday

2. Time: Between 30 minutes before Sunrise until around 1100lt

3. Countermeasure: Suspend entering into the traffic route until safety is ensured

Vessels under Inlandsea pilot service are basically to adjust entering timing into Akashi Strait to avoid busy fishing time zone.

One escort boat shall be arranged to pass the traffic route if vessel to navigate during the busy fishing time zone.

However, vessel LOA over 200m with dangerous cargo or vessel LOA over 250m are required to arranged escort boat for all seasons

as prescribed in Japan Maritime Traffic Safety Law and additional escort boat arrangement shall not be required.

Furthermore, any pre-observation of traffic route condition not conducted before approaching.
