Assistant Accountant

Job description

Main Purpose

Working in Finance Shared Service Centre (FSSC) located in Chennai, responsible to support the Finance Manager for West Mediterranean Area (France, Gibraltar, Spain and Switzerland) with respect to accounting and reporting.

Role reports to Finance Manager for West Mediterranean who is based in FSSC Chennai.

Key Accountabilities

Accounts payables:

  • Post overhead invoices
  • Reconcile vendor statements, chase outstanding invoices
  • Resolve vendor queries
  • Process petty cash
  • Post and pay staff expense claims

Vendor payments

  • Prepare BACS payments
  • Prepare manual ad hoc payments
  • Send remittance advice details to payees
  • Post manual payments
  • Payment allocation

Bank accounts

  • Bank reconciliations
  • Allocate customer receipts
  • Post bank journals
  • Post direct debit payments
  • Process inter-bank transfers


  • Prepare and issue monthly vendor commission invoices
  • Prepare any ad hoc invoices

Month end: with guidance of the line manager

  • Post month end financial journals
  • Fixed assets postings
  • Prepayment and accrual
  • Revaluation
  • Balance sheet reconciliations


  • Prepare and run reports defined by line manager.
  • Any other ad hoc request
Key skills


  • PC literate, IT skills (MS Excel Word, Email)
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Customer service orientated
  • Willing to learn expand their knowledge
  • Effective communication skills
  • Attention to details
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience working in a multi-national/international company
  • Basic Knowledge of accounting rules
  • Experience of working in an accounting department


  • Experience in Ship and Port agency related field
  • Working in a shared service centre environment
Education requirements

Degree educated at minimum bachelors level
