Deepening of the Mississippi River Channel

The US Army Corps of Engineers started an $85.35 million USD multiphase project to deepen the Mississippi River Channel. Earlier this year it was announced the Trump Administration approved an additional $45.7 million USD for the project. 

The Mississippi River Ship Channel will be deepened by 50 ft. (15.24 meters). The deepening will allow new Panamax and Post Panama vessels as far north as Baton Rouge.
