Japan - Compulsory Insurance Under Domestic Regulations

Please find the below linked announcement by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan.

From the 1st of October 2020, ships are required to submit the following two documents to enter in Japanese ports.

  • International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage (BC)
  • Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks (WRC)

We understand that Maritime Bureau will not allow ships, who do not have above two certificates to enter in Japanese ports.

Therefore this additional documentation is very important. We will ask for ship's cooperation to submit these additional documents in a timely manner.

We strongly suggest that your agents are informed well in advance if your ships do not have the above certificates on board.
