LWU Canada (Longshoremen Union) - Strike to Commence 27th May

The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association has released the following statement:

“Please be advised we have just received formal, written 72-hour strike notice from ILWU Canada relating to ongoing labour negotiations in British Columbia.

Strike notice has been specifically directed to GCT Global Container Terminals Canada effective on
7am on Monday, May 27, 2019 in British Columbia.

The BCMEA has a plan in motion to address next steps and we will update you further as the situation develops.”

The strike will have LIMITED scope and ONLY two container terminals (operated by GTC), one at Deltaport and the other at Vanterm will be affected. 

The union may decide to rotate terminals however, we do not have any indication that this will occur. For the time being, all other terminals are expected to run as usual.
