Belgium: Port Disruption Due to Strike

On Wednesday, 25 June, the representative trade unions in Belgium have called a national strike. The action is in response to the Belgian Government’s proposed labour market and pension reforms.

Current Impact on Port Operations

Antwerp:

  • Significant disruption to inbound and outbound traffic due to strike action by the Flemish Pilotage Service Vlissingen
  • Pilot cutter West operational with dinghy support – tender SWATHs unavailable from 24/06 at 19:30 until 26/06 at 07:45
  • Pilot cutter North operational
  • Flemish Pilotage Service VLI on strike
  • River pilots operational; shifts possible
  • Port of Antwerp-Bruges (PoAB) tug service operating at approximately 65% capacity (3/3/2)
  • Kieldrecht Lock, Berendrecht Lock, and Van Cauwelaert Lock operational
  • Departing vessels without schedule or clearance: 12
  • Incoming vessels without schedule or clearance: 16

Zeebrugge:

  • Minimal disruption reported
  • All port services operational
  • Zeebrugge Traffic Control Centre operational
  • Pilot cutter West operational with dinghy – tender SWATHs unavailable from 24/06 at 19:30 until 26/06 at 07:45
