Impact of Super Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam

Super Typhoon Yagi made landfall on Vietnam’s northern coast on September 7, 2024. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that typhoon has unleashed torrential rains across the region, with some areas recording over 300 mm of rainfall between 8 a.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Sunday. Hoa Binh and Son La saw rainfall as high as 430-440 mm.

PORT STATUS

Quang Ninh Port:

  • Currently closed due to damage, including sunken fishing boats and fallen cranes.
  • Cleanup and investigations are ongoing.
  • Expected to resume operations in 2-3 days.

Hai Phong Port:

  • Partially operational; accepting small tankers for urgent discharges.
  • Larger vessels remain on standby.
  • Full operations expected to resume in two days.
