Lantis will commence transport of the first tunnel section for the Oosterweel Connection from Zeebrugge to Antwerp on May 22. During this transportation, there may be disruptions to shipping traffic due to traffic measures implemented by GNA.
During these transports, there will be temporary closures of the Boudewijn Canal and the Connecting Dock in Zeebruge, initially on May 22 from 09:00 to 19:00, with the possibility of shorter or longer closures as needed.
Additionally, there may be limited or no shipping traffic in the port of Antwerp between May 23 at 19:00 and May 24 at 02:00, between buoy 45 (Hansweert) and the Kieldrechts Lock (Antwerp).
Submersion
From the watch station at the Dredging Dock, the eight large tunnel segments will be individually transported to the submersion site in the Scheldt. If everything goes according to plan, the first tunnel element will be submerged at the bottom of the Scheldt in early July. During the submersion, closures will last approximately 24 to 30 hours (red zone). Shorter closures (yellow zone) will occur during the transport of tunnel segments from the Dredging Dock to the submersion site.
The closures related to submersion are scheduled as follows:
- Tunnel segments 1 to 4: from early July to the end of August 2025
- Tunnel segments 5 to 8: from early October to the end of December 2025
- Lantis expects the first tunnel segment to be submerged around July 4, with more precise timings to be communicated later.
