Severe weather conditions on the morning of 21 September, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, have resulted in the closure of the Rio Grande BAR. No inbound or outbound vessel manoeuvres are currently being performed.
Pilotage authorities are monitoring conditions and will resume vessel movements once weather conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
The adverse weather has also caused widespread power outages across Rio Grande, affecting a number of port terminals and likely resulting in operational delays.
The Inchcape Rio Grande office is currently without power. Responses to emails and other communications may therefore be delayed.
