Effective date: 6 October 2026
The Suez Canal Authority has announced updated requirements concerning maritime safety and security standards, effective from 6 October 2026.
Under the new requirements, vessels aged 25 years or older must undergo a comprehensive inspection and sea trials before obtaining transit permission. The associated fees must be paid in advance of transit.
Vessels that have completed the required inspections and sea trials must undergo a further inspection within six months of the previous inspection date. This is subject to no defects, failures or technical observations being identified during that period.
Shipowners, operators and shipping agents are advised to take these requirements into account when planning vessel transits through the Suez Canal.
