Please be informed that port operations in Hong Kong are currently suspended due to the approach of Super Typhoon Ragasa.

The Hong Kong Observatory has announced that the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 will be issued at 2:20 p.m. today (23 September 2025). Local winds are expected to strengthen further.

Ragasa has an extensive circulation with fierce winds, posing a severe threat to the Guangdong coast. According to the latest forecast, Ragasa will maintain super typhoon intensity and be closest to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary tomorrow morning (24 September 2025). Locally, weather conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly later today.

Depending on Ragasa’s proximity to Hong Kong and changes in local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need to issue higher Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals later tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow.

Adverse weather is expected to persist throughout tomorrow. Gale to storm force winds will prevail locally, with hurricane force winds offshore and on high ground at times. Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms are expected. Seas will be phenomenal with swells. The Observatory urges the public to stay away from the shoreline and to avoid engaging in water sports.

UPDATE

Please be informed that all Tropical Cyclone Signals were cancelled at 11:20 a.m. on 25 September 2025. Port operations are gradually resuming normal.
