Situation update
A significant oil spill has occurred at Deurganck Dock. Despite ongoing response operations by Brabo Cleaning Company, Rijkswaterstaat, and other involved parties, pollution has spread across a wide area. Multiple vessels and tugboats have been affected, and shoreline contamination has been reported.
Operational impact
- The Scheldt River is closed to all traffic from buoy 80 up to and beyond Deurganck Dock in the inbound direction.
- Deurganck Dock is inaccessible until further notice.
- Cleanup and containment operations are ongoing.
- An aerial assessment is being carried out by coastguard aircraft.
The Joint Nautical Authority will determine further measures based on the latest observations.
