Cyclone Freddy approaches Mozambique

Cyclone Freddy is expected to make landfall in Mozambique on Friday 24th of February 2023, according to the country’s national meteorology institute.  The tropical cyclone is equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane and is expected to dump heavy rain and bring turbulent winds.

All ships have been vacated from the port to anchorage and force majeure is in effect. It has been reported that 12 of the ships have advised port control that they will leave the Beira anchorage for their safety.

The region has experienced heavy rain in the last 24 hours and the electricity supply in Beira is intermittent.
