This initiative aligns with the PCA’s commitment to decarbonisation and aims to support global shipping’s transition to net-zero emissions by 2050.

- Availability: One slot per week at the opening of Period 1A

Eligibility Requirements:
Phase 1 (Starting October 2025):
- Vessels must be dual-fuel ready and capable of operating on at least one fuel with a well-to-wake (WtW) carbon intensity below 75 gCO2(e)/MJ.
- Fuel compliance verified through supplier certification.

Phase 2 (Starting 2026):
- Additional requirement: Vessels must submit a Technology Screening Report evaluating energy efficiency technologies.
Selection Criteria:
- Cargo Condition: Priority given to laden vessels.
- Capacity: Larger Panama Canal Universal Measurement System (PCUMS) capacity vessels receive preference.
The NetZero Slot is designed to reward investments in energy efficiency and low-carbon fuels, reinforcing the PCA’s efforts to promote sustainable maritime operations.
