Suez Canal Authority Announces 15% Rebate for Large Containerships

In response to requests from containership owners and operators, and in light of recent positive developments in the security situation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Suez Canal Authority has announced the following:

  • Laden or ballast containerships with a Suez Canal Net Tonnage of 130,000 tons or above, transiting the Suez Canal (northbound or southbound), will be granted a 15% rebate on transit.
  • This rebate is calculated solely on the normal transit dues stipulated by the transit dues table, in addition to surcharges levied on container tiers.
  • The referenced Suez Canal Net Tonnage refers to the basic tonnage, excluding any temporary additions applied during transit (such as double bottom tanks or temporary stores).
  • The rebate will be applied directly upon transit; there is no requirement to submit requests or documentation.

This circular applies to containerships transiting the Suez Canal from 15 May 2025, for a period of 90 days.
