Bangladesh has reported internet connectivity issues since the 18th of July due to a nationwide unrest sparked by the anti-quota protests of student groups.
While the unrest situation with regards to the anti-quota protests have almost been amicably resolved between the Government and the student protest groups, it is still not clear as to when the situation will revert to normal, and the nationwide curfew will be withdrawn by the Government and the internet connectivity will be restored.
Please note the latest update on the situation:
1. The unrest situation is now under control after 48 hours of deployment of Army by the Government on the 19th of July
2. Yesterday, the Prime Minister had a face-to-face discussion with all influential business leaders in Bangladesh from Ship Owners to Shipping Agents and all other sectors and industries and assured them they would restore internet connectivity after the situation is stabilised nationwide.
3. Port Officials have advised that there is no problem in discharging cargo at Jetty berth and local shipping Agents can arrange berth Operators to discharge cargo at berth. However direct delivery of cargo from port to outside port premises is restricted due to the curfew. Cargo receivers are unable to arrange vehicles due to restrictions in road transportation/movement. Vessel movement is not restricted by any means and discharging of Cargo at outer anchorage is normal. However, from time to time due to bad weather / rough sea / Cautionary signal no 3 during the current monsoon season, lighter movement to outer anchorage is occasionally disrupted resulting in cargo operations being suspended.
4. Crew sign off and sign on is possible during curfew break and also during curfew by taking permission from local authority for e.g Police and/or District Commissioner.
5. Ship Spares in Transit (SSIT), which are in Bangladesh are unable to be cleared from customs for onwards delivery to the vessel at the moment due to lack of internet connectivity as the incumbent customs officials are unable to access their servers.
