Rain with heavy falls, especially in the north and east, easing or clearing later tomorrow. Gale east to southeasterlies, but severe gale in many places, turning severe gale southwesterlies over Northland and Auckland later today, then easing tomorrow.
Whanganui to Wellington, also Nelson
Occasional rain, becoming persistent in Wellington tomorrow. Gale or severe gale southeasterlies tonight and tomorrow morning.
Port closures in effect with winds reported at 140km/hr in Auckland and Marsden Point. Heavy rain and risk of flooding reported.
