The Brazilian government has announced a significant expansion in the application of the Maritime Transport Agreement signed with China, which will directly impact shipping companies operating in the country.
The General Coordination of Migratory Police (CGMIG/DPA/PF) has issued an official circular clarifying that the agreement’s coverage has been extended to new regions, ensuring greater legal security for the transportation of Chinese crews.
The new directive establishes that the Maritime Transport Agreement now also applies to crew members from the following regions: Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Tibet, Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
As a result, shipping companies transporting crew members from these regions on vessels under any of these flags will no longer be subject to the issuance of Infraction Notices.
Additionally, the Vitória immigration department has confirmed that, from now on, Chinese crew members on board vessels flying the aforementioned flags will not be fined during calls at ports such as Tubarão, Praia Mole, Vitória port complex, Ponta Ubu, and Portocel.
